PUBLISHING YOUR OWN MAGAZINE
HOW TO GET STARTED
FIRST PUBLISHED IN JANUARY 2006
INDEX
In September 2003, after considering the idea for some time, I began
publishing my first local community magazine. I had no previous
experience of magazine publishing and very little capital to invest in
the project but went ahead with the unexpected but very much appreciated
support of my employers at that time. It turned out to be one of
the best decisions I have ever made.
I cannot promise that you will have as much success or at least
the same amount of personal satisfaction that I received from my time
publishing magazines but I would like to share with you my experiences
in the hope that they may help you to decide if a local community
magazine is right for you.
The following pages describe my reasons for publishing a community
magazine and provide basic information regarding my background which I
trust will show that for each of us, anything is possible if you are
determined enough to make it happen. You will also find a description of
what my community magazines comprised, how I compiled them and what
equipment and software I used to publish my magazines.
