IS IT POSSIBLE TO
MAKE PUBLISHING MAGAZINES A FULL-TIME BUSINESS?
Put
simply - yes, it can be.
It
all depends on you of course, but no matter what facts I present to you,
unless you want it and are prepared to work towards that goal then it simply
won't happen.
Everyone's
circumstances are different and what suits some people wouldn't suit others.
What some people consider a worthwhile income may not be what another is
expecting. Family commitments must certainly be borne in mind and their
interests should always be paramount in any decisions you make.
Publishing
community magazines on a full-time basis is certainly possible. I was
very fortunate that I had no family commitments when I made the decision to
terminate my full-time employment but I do have financial responsibilities
like everyone else.
Only
once you begin publishing and have secured a dedicated readership will the
possibilities for turning your hobby into a full-time business be something
you can consider. Expect to work hard towards that because it doesn't
come easy.
The
rewards are very satisfying indeed. My home is now my workplace and what
I enjoyed as a hobby is now my occupation. It is no more difficult than
before and I have time to attend to other areas of interest. I no longer
have to work nights but I do still have some late nights - though there is no
need to set the alarm for the following morning. I have the freedom to do what
I want to do, when I want to do it, but above all, I enjoy doing what I have
to do.
