CAN ANYONE PUBLISH A COMMUNITY MAGAZINE?

Publishing a community magazine is much easier than many people realise but of course it wouldn't be suitable for everyone.

The procedures for compiling a document in preparation for publishing are not difficult to understand, indeed, the majority of people today are computer literate and quite capable of compiling and publishing a community magazine. However, I firmly believe that the overriding prerequisite for publishing a community magazine is that the person can relate to the task and have an understanding of the subject.

Publishing a community magazine involves sharing a persons personal recollections, perhaps their childhood memories, and this may well be the very first time they have revealed such private moments of their lives to anyone before, certainly in published form. It is a time for you to show respect and understanding. They may be very emotional times for your subject and I have received many letters from readers who have been moved to tears by some of the recollections they have read from other readers.

If you yourself are moved by such stories and can relate to the emotions that reading such stories can evoke then you are well on your way to choosing to publish a community magazine. Publishing a community magazine can become a very lucrative project but it is vital that your primary concern is for your readers.
